Currently there is a massive data deficiency for this area of the Coral Sea and Papua New Guinea, as there has not been a consistent and quantitative study of species.

There have been spontaneous sightings of species such as Thresher sharks, hammerheads and whale sharks which are all listed as either endangered or critically endangered species o the IUCN Red List.
